Synopsis

The book "The Jewish Spiritual Life" by Mohammed Ahmed Al-Khayyat explores the various aspects of Jewish spiritual life, shedding light on their religious teachings and spiritual practices according to Jewish traditions. The book opens with an introduction that explains the motivations behind its creation, where the author points out the lack of Arabic resources about Jews and Judaism and the need for an objective understanding of Jewish life, free from preconceived judgments. The book is divided into seven main chapters, each addressing a specific aspect of Jewish spiritual life.

The first chapter discusses the "Written Law" (Torah), clarifying its significance, methods of documentation, and interpretation. This is followed by the second chapter, which focuses on the "Oral Law" (Talmud), detailing its development and its role in preserving Jewish teachings across generations. Chapters three to five cover the religious roles of prophets, priests, Levites, and others, illustrating how these roles overlap and integrate to maintain Jewish doctrine. The book also provides a detailed explanation of rituals such as prayer, fasting, pilgrimage, and almsgiving, considering them the essence of the Jewish faith.

The sixth chapter examines Jewish religious occasions and holidays, such as Passover and Sukkot, explaining the associated rituals and celebrations and their spiritual significance. Finally, the seventh chapter presents the life cycle of a Jew from birth to death, outlining the ceremonies and rituals accompanying each stage. The book aims to provide a scholarly and objective perspective on Jewish spiritual life and is a serious attempt to fill the knowledge gap in the Arabic library on this important subject(الحياة الروحية اليهودية).
